July 2010 Message
Looking Ahead to Fall
I know you’re out on the water, sailing across the bay …, or under your spreading maple tree witha tall glass of iced tea … , or on the beach, building sand castles with your grandchildren or
enjoying a book …. These are the lazy days of summer. We all need time to catch our breath, to
re-create, to renew. I pray that you are having a wonderful summer!
These lazy days of summer, however, give us time to think ahead and plan for the coming year.
If it’s July, already, soon it will be September! What can we do now to get ready – and how
would you like to be involved? Here are some possibilities for you to ponder while you’re
paddling your kayak or lying in the hammock or weeding the garden. We need a few people to
organize around the following tasks this summer. Check the one you would like to help with and
call me – or rally a few friends to form a team:
* AfterSchool w/the Arts, the “anchor” program for our new Edgewood Community Center,
has a few hundred flyers that need to be distributed in the neighborhood. How about picking
a block or two and tucking them into your neighbors’ doors? You can do this while getting
your daily exercise, pushing a stroller, or meeting your neighbors. Good job for teens, too.
*
Our Annual Golf Tournament needs a team to recruit golfers and solicit prizes and
sponsors for each hole. Let’s not leave Alan to do this all by himself!
* Help us Prepare to Welcome a New Settled Minister. Invite your family and friends to
church. Look around and see what we need to do to spruce up the building and grounds.
Identify ways to show the Edgewood neighborhood what a friendly, caring church we are.
Have a great summer -- but don’t forget to hold the church, and its people and its programs, in
your thoughts and prayers, just as we continue to pray for you.
Summer Blessings, Reverend Betsy
