March 2010 Message
Companions on the Lenten Journey
Holy One, be among us—day and night, hill and valley, sure-path and stumbling.
Bless us that we may be blessers. Guide us that we may venture forth with courage.
Keep us as we come in to worship and as we go out to serve you in the world. Amen.
-Maren Tirabassi
Just as Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness, we, too, during Lent, spend 40 days discerning God’s
call upon our lives. At Edgewood Church we offer a variety of ways to open up to God and each
other. In addition to our Sunday morning services, we will host a special healing service on Tuesday
evening, March 9, at 7:00 p.m. This is part of a series of healing services sponsored by the Cranston
Clergy Association. A list of the nine being offered is enclosed.
Also, we are offering our “What in God’s Name Are You Doing!” gifts discovery course again on
four Monday evenings at 7 p.m. and a special study, “Christians at the Border: Immigration, the
Church, and the Bible,” on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Read more about these in the enclosed Lenten
Program of Services & Studies.
Finally, work continues on the education building. Repairs have been made on the roof. Alan
Chamberlin and Laura Webb have spent hours painting and repairing the windows. Pretty soon we
will tap those of you who have offered to paint walls. At the same time, we are in conversation with
the Riverside Congregational Church, the folks who are expanding their After-School with the Arts program to include us. Right now we are writing proposals for funding to implement the program
here. Laura Webb has already submitted an application for Community Development Block Grant
funds for staff and music and art teachers’ salaries in preparation for launching our program in
September. Looking ahead, we plan to hold a concert here on Sunday afternoon, April 11, to
showcase what some of their children are doing and to raise donations for our program. We will
continue to keep you informed and encourage your participation along the way.
See You in Church! Reverend Betsy
